Top 5 Lip Sync Battles from RuPaul’s Drag Race

5. Mimi Imfurst vs. India Ferrah (Season 3)

Famous for all the wrong reasons, this lip sync battle between Mimi Imfurst and India Ferrah is legendary. This wasn’t the first aggressive lip sync (I’m looking at you, Venus D-Lite), but it was completely bizarre when it happened and made everyone’s jaw drop. After unsuccessfully attempting to obstruct India from the judges’ view by going in front of her, Mimi lifted her up above her head and twisted her around until India shouted “Get her off of me!” This was a completely insane moment, and watching the judge’s expressions was hilarious. It even led the pissed off RuPaul to say, “Drag is not a contact sport.” The even funnier thing is that Mimi later attempted to “apologize” to India during the Reunion show by giving her a shirt that said something along the lines of, “I’ve been lifted up by Mimi Imfurst.”

4. Alyssa Edwards vs. Tatianna (All Stars 2)

This lip sync was epic because, unlike all of the other lip syncs on RuPaul’s Drag Race, it was not a battle to stay but rather a battle to come back into the competition. This resulted in one of the best lip syncs ever in which both queens gave it their absolute all and both ended up returning to the competition. The cherry on top is that they both got to pick who they wanted to send home and unanimously sent home my least favourite (and the most bitter) queen of all time, Phi Phi O’Hara.

3. Raven vs. Alexis Mateo/Yara Sofia (All Stars 1)

If I were ranking these lip syncs based on sexiness, then this one would most definitely come in second (the sexiest one will be ru-vealed soon). In this video, Raven slayed the competition with her smouldering smoky blue eyes (those contacts were on point!) and her short and sexy skin-tight shimmering grey dress. Alexis Mateo was no match for Raven’s sensual movements on stage. When Alexis’s teammate, Yara Sofia, realized this, she jumped in to save her team, but it was too late. By that point, Raven enthralled the judges to the point of no return and Rujubee was pushed into the Final 4.

2. Raven vs. Jujubee (All Stars 1)

This is by far the most heartbreaking and genuine moment on the show let alone during a lip sync. Best friends, Raven and Jujubee, were asked to lip sync for their lives against each other. There is some controversy on production’s involvement in this incident, but I won’t go into that here. When RuPaul declared that Raven and Jujubee had to lip sync against each other, they were devastated and could not hold back their tears throughout the entire performance. It was beautiful to watch and oh so heart-wrenching. The song (Robyn’s “Dancing on My Own”) was also an eerily accurate indicator of their emotions. At the end of the lip sync, Jujubee broke down and Raven had to help a queen breathe for the second time (*cough* Tyra Sanchez *cough*). The best part of it all was the RuPaul was so caught off guard by the poignant moment that he decided to keep them both. When he declared, “Shante, you both stay!” we all yelled, “Yes!” just like Chad Michaels. The only reason this lip sync isn’t my top one is because I bawl like a baby whenever I watch it (or maybe that’s actually the reason to make it my #1).

1. Raja vs. Carmen Carrera (Season 3)

Now, if any video could make people who think that they’re straight confused about their sexual orientation, it is my #1 favourite lip sync of all time – Raja vs. Carmen. This is by far the sexiest moment on RuPaul’s drag race as well as the most shocking lip sync. It started off pretty tame, but when Raja slipped out of her dress into her undergarments, Carmen decided to top her (pun intended). Carmen pulled off her entire bottom and was completely naked from the waist down. She then proceeded to sensually crawl all over the floor. However, Raja was determined to out-sex Carmen and crawled towards her, leading Alexis Mateo to refer to the moment as “soft porn.” Raja then planted the kiss of death on Carmen’s shoulder, ultimately coming out on top (once again, pun intended).
